Bespoke industrial
structural steel

We design and fabricate platforms, walkways, industrial staircases and complete steel structures for production plants and facilities in Barcelona.

Industrial steel construction

Industrial structural steel is the backbone of modern production facilities. At Talleres ECI we design, fabricate and install steel structures that meet the load, regulatory and functional requirements of each project.

We work with hot-rolled profiles (HEB, IPE, UPN, structural tube) in carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium and their alloys, complying with the Spanish Building Code (CTE) and Eurocode 3 on projects that require it.

We hold EN 1090 EXC-3 certification, the most demanding execution class for the fabrication of structural steel, which allows us to take on projects with the highest structural safety requirements.

Our team covers the full cycle: from structural calculation and fabrication drawings through to galvanising or painting and final installation on site or in plant.

Types of structures we fabricate

  • Work and maintenance platforms
  • Industrial walkways and bridges
  • Industrial and emergency staircases
  • Handrails and perimeter guards
  • Machinery supports and bases
  • Industrial building structures
  • Metal canopies and shelters
  • Mezzanines and intermediate floors
  • Structures for process equipment
  • Pipe and duct support systems

Advantages of structural steel

High strength-to-weight ratio

Steel allows for long spans and heavy loads with optimised sections, reducing the overall weight of the structure.

Workshop prefabrication

Maximum work carried out in a controlled workshop environment, minimum on-site installation time, reducing interference with production.

Expandable and adaptable

Steel structures can be extended or modified in future without demolition, adapting to the facility's growth.

Finishes and protection

The durability of a metal structure depends largely on its surface finish. We offer several options depending on the working environment:

  • Two-component paint (epoxy + polyurethane)
  • Hot-dip galvanising (HDG)
  • Zinc or aluminium metallisation
  • Special coatings for chemical or marine environments
  • High-resistance anti-corrosion primer
  • Stainless steel for aggressive environments

Work process

  1. 01

    Data collection and site visit

Site visit to take measurements, check environmental conditions and define load and regulatory requirements.

  2. 02

    Design and structural calculation

3D modelling, limit-state calculation and preparation of fabrication and installation drawings.

  3. 03

    Workshop fabrication

Cutting, forming, welding and pre-assembly in the workshop with continuous dimensional control.

  4. 04

    Surface treatment

Shot blasting, galvanising or painting to specification, with coating-thickness control.

  5. 05

    Installation on site

Our own installation team with suitable lifting equipment. Coordinated with the client's production manager.

  6. 06

    Handover and documentation

As-built drawings, material and welding certificates, and declaration of conformity where applicable.

Industrial structural steel

Yes. For projects requiring formal structural calculation (calculation report, drawings signed by a qualified engineer), we work with partner engineers who issue the necessary technical documentation. For smaller structures, our own technical department carries out the calculation and fabrication drawings.

Yes, this is one of our common scenarios. We plan the installation during downtime or in cordoned-off areas to minimise the impact on production. We bring all our own equipment (lifting gear, scaffolding) and follow the client's site safety plan.

Industrial platforms and walkways are mainly regulated by RD 486/1997 (Spanish workplace regulations), the EN ISO 14122 standard (permanent access to machinery) and, structurally, Eurocode 3 and CTE DB-SE-A. We apply these regulations when designing handrails, steps, minimum widths and service loads.

For a standard medium-sized platform (20–50 m²), the typical lead time is 3 to 6 weeks from design approval. On-site installation usually takes 1–3 days if access is adequate. More complex projects (multi-level structures, hot-dip galvanising) require longer lead times, which we confirm in each quote.

Hot-dip galvanising (HDG) is carried out at specialised facilities, so we work with trusted certified galvanisers. We manage the entire process: preparing the structure (designed to galvanise correctly, with drainage holes, suspension points…), transport and receipt with coating-thickness control.
